Data & Evaluation

“Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future, and renders the present inaccessible.”

In order to fully understand our past, present and future, Vermont’s restorative justice programs sought to document the current data collection landscape within our programs and determine how we might improve it.  This required our organizations to explore how we could coordinate our efforts to collect meaningful data and evaluations that would help us understand our programs’ impacts on equity and inclusion over time.  Vela, was contracted to carry out the Statewide Data Collection Assessment for the EDJIE Data and Evaluation Project.  Vela is an organization aiming to increase the availability of restorative justice by providing individualized consultation and support for qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and reporting,  Vela conducted individual interviews with 21 restorative justice organizations and 3 representatives from the State of Vermont to gather information for their reports and recommendations. In addition, Vela presented options for database management systems right-sized for our restorative justice programs.
